IVR Congress 2023 – Amsterdam
From 24 to 26 May 2023, the 36th edition of the IVR Congress will take place in Amsterdam. The IVR Congress has been a great success among our members for many years and, in addition to a substantively strong programme, offers a fantastic opportunity to get acquainted and network with our members from different countries and sectors in an informal way.
Beautiful locations and inspiring speakers
The 36th edition of the IVR Congress will take place in Amsterdam, the capital of the Netherlands, with a rich history and a strong link to the inland navigation sector. The congress once again offers a wide range of activities and networking opportunities.
Board and committees
The congress will start on Wednesday 24 May with the meetings of the members of the Executive Committee, the Board of Management, the Advisory Council and the Loss Prevention Committee. Afterwards there will be an Executive Dinner (on invitation only).

This page is regularly updated with more information. Keep a close eye on this page, our monthly newsletter and social media channels. Registration will be possible from mid-February via this page.
Given the positive experiences in recent years, we are once again opening congress participation to non-members, not least in order to offer all congress participants a broader network. Non-members can participate in an IVR congress once, after which they are offered the opportunity to join as a member.

Hotel Jakarta Amsterdam is the ‘greenest’ and one of the first energy-neutral hotels in the Netherlands and is built with sustainable and recyclable materials.
In addition, many energy-saving measures are used, such as collecting rainwater to water the indoor garden and converting solar energy to heat the shower water.
Hotel Jakarta Amsterdam is located on the tip of the Java island, with a beautiful view of the water and about a 20-minute walk from Central Station.
The day program for all participants will start in Hotel Jakarta Amsterdam. After registration and collection of the personalized batch, a delicious lunch will be served and the conference will be opened with the workshop « Changing Landscapes ». During the workshop, speakers from different European countries and disciplines will discuss a topic related to the central theme.
The element of water cannot be missed during an inland navigation oriented congress in a city like Amsterdam, so after the workshop we will take a boat ride to the next location.
Hotel Jakarta Amsterdam also offers rooms with a discount especially for our guests, see ‘Hotel’ on this page for more information.
After a cruise where we sail from the panoramic view of the IJ to the historic canals of Amsterdam’s city center, we moor at the beautiful 17th-century Koepelkerk.
The Round Lutheran Church was built in 1668-1671 as the second and thus « new » Lutheran Church, after the Old Lutheran Church had become too small due to the many Lutheran immigrants.
The architect was Adriaan Dortsman. Because the Lutherans were forbidden to build a church tower, they built a domed church. In the small turret on the dome, called lantern, the Lutheran swan was depicted.
The Lutherans left the church in 1935, after which the building was used for various purposes, including a concert hall and a sailmaker’s workshop. The adjacent Renaissance Amsterdam Hotel now uses the church and operates it as an event location.
After a cocktail hour in the Koepelkerk we will enjoy a delicious 4-course dinner in the historic dome hall.
Traditionally, the General Assembly will take place on the Friday, once again at a beautiful location: at the Royal Tropical Institute.
This multidisciplinary knowledge institute for international, economic and intercultural cooperation (also known as KIT or Tropeninstituut) collaborates with governments, the business community and multilateral organizations such as the United Nations, the European Union and the World Bank.
The institute is a continuation of the Colonial Museum in Haarlem, which was founded in 1864. In 1910, on the initiative of private individuals, governments and companies, it was decided to move the museum to Amsterdam and to expand it with an institute. The name was changed to Royal Tropical Institute in the 1950s.
KIT is a non-profit organisation. Income comes from project financing by the Dutch government and international organizations, and from projects for the private sector. It focuses on themes such as: stimulation of sustainable production chains, promotion of female entrepreneurship, quality improvement of medical services and infrastructure, culture preservation and exchange, especially in developing countries.
The general assembly takes place in the Queen Máxima Hall. A separate activity will be organized during the meeting for partners and non-members. After the meeting, a joint closing lunch will take place in the marble hall of KIT.
